Nancy Mace Withdraws From South Carolina Senate Race

U.S. Representative Nancy Mace announced she will not seek the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Mace stated she is focusing her efforts on seeking justice for women and girls rather than pursuing the Senate nomination.

The Republican field for the special election now includes Senator Darline Graham Nordone, who was appointed to finish her brother's term and decided to run after encouragement from President Donald Trump. Other candidates seeking the nomination are Representatives Ralph Norman and Russell Fry, as well as businessman Mark Lynch.

Internal party tensions have emerged regarding the candidacy of Representative Fry. Both Mace and Norman argued that if Fry wins, his House seat would remain vacant until May, which they claim could jeopardize the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. The filing period for the nomination runs from July 21 through July 28, with a special Republican primary scheduled for August 11.
