Narendra Modi Launches Nationwide Youth Anti-Drug Campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in New Delhi. The nationwide initiative, also referred to as the Drug-Free Youth for Viksit Bharat Pledge Campaign or Gen-Z Against Addiction, seeks to eradicate substance abuse among India's youth to ensure the country becomes a developed nation by 2047.

Modi described the illegal drug trade as a "terror agenda" used by hostile nations to weaken India's national strength. He announced a commitment to take 100 strong steps over the next 100 Sundays through meditation, sports, and awareness campaigns. The Prime Minister also referenced the Kashi Declaration, a five-year roadmap adopted in July 2025, and emphasized the need for open communication within families for early addiction detection.

State-level activities occurred simultaneously across India, including a program in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, at the National Forensic Sciences University. During this event, Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel urged students to take anti-drug pledges. The My Bharat organization reported connecting with over 2.5 crore young people nationwide, including 9 lakh in Gujarat, to promote national service and responsibility.
