US Launches Operation Economic Outcast to Collapse Iranian Regime

The United States is combining a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz with an aggressive sanctions campaign to isolate Iran and force its economic collapse.

The United States of America has launched Operation Economic Outcast, a sweeping economic offensive designed to isolate the Government of Iran and force a regime collapse. Led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the initiative—described as an "economic D-Day"—targets digital assets, gold, technology, aviation, and shipping. This financial pressure is paired with a strict naval blockade of Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz, which the U.S. claims to control fully after clearing Iranian sea mines.

The Government of Iran has faced severe economic deterioration, with the rial hitting record lows and inflation exceeding 80%. President Masoud Pezeshkian admitted that trade has plunged 25% to 35% and warned that the public is "on the edge." In response to fuel shortages and layoffs, localized protests have erupted in Asaluyeh, Shadegan, and Bandar-e Mahshahr. To mitigate the crisis, Tehran has attempted to build a parallel financial system with China and maintain oil sales through ship-to-ship transfers in distant seas.

Diplomatic efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz have fluctuated. Iran and Oman developed a phased framework for a temporary joint shipping corridor, but Tehran maintains the waterway will remain closed until the U.S. lifts sanctions and provides war reparations. While Qatar and Pakistan have attempted to mediate, the U.S. has shifted its strategy from military strikes to "economic asphyxiation," asserting that no negotiations are currently underway.
