UK Government Increases Pension Credit and Disability Supplements

The Department for Work and Pensions increased the weekly income guarantee for state pensioners and provided additional supplements for those with severe disabilities. Effective April 6, the Standard Minimum Guarantee in Pension Credit rose by 4.8%, raising weekly payments to £238 for single pensioners and £363.25 for couples.

State pensioners with severe disabilities who claim Pension Credit receive an additional £86.05 per week. This follows a 3.8% increase, totaling £4,474.60 in additional annual payments. To qualify for this supplement, pensioners must receive the care component of Disability Living Allowance or the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated his intention to maintain the current system as part of a cost of living government. However, Chancellor John Healey may announce further changes during the Autumn Budget scheduled for October 28.
