White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of August 2026 to focus on her family following the birth of her second child. President Donald Trump announced the departure on August 12, stating that Leavitt will remain one of his top outside advisors. Leavitt, the youngest person to ever hold the role, was known for a combative style and for integrating podcasters and TikTok stars into the press corps, though her tenure saw significant tension with traditional media.

Leavitt's resignation coincides with the exits of other staff members, including White House counsel David Warrington and deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson. While a successor has not been officially named, CNN commentator Scott Jennings has emerged as a frontrunner according to The Daily Beast. Other candidates under consideration include principal deputy press secretary Anna Kelly, attorney Alina Habba, and Matthew Boyle.

Jennings, a former advisor to Senator Mitch McConnell, did not confirm his candidacy during a recent CNN appearance but noted that Democrats fear his appointment. Political analysts suggest the administration is seeking a loyalist capable of aggressively responding to critics and serving as a direct mouthpiece for the president's views.
