Trump Announces All 50 States Join Medicaid Drug Pricing Program

The White House estimates the initiative will save $529 billion over the next 10 years. Trump claimed these savings would allow states to invest in other healthcare improvements and suggested the move could help the administration win the upcoming midterm elections. While some pharmaceutical companies, including Incyte Corporation, have agreed to participate, the administration has not disclosed the specific details of the deals struck with drugmakers.

Critics and the advocacy group Public Citizen have dismissed the effort as a "charade," arguing that the program fails to meaningfully reduce national spending or pharmaceutical profits. Policy experts have further questioned the validity of the projected savings, citing a lack of transparency and the program's reliance on voluntary participation from drug companies. States were required to apply by September 10 and must finalize their agreements by September 30.
