Russia Strikes Ukrainian Gas Hubs as Zelenskyy Faces Protests

The Russian Ministry of Defense conducted a series of precision strikes against Ukraine's gas production and transit infrastructure on July 21, 2026. These attacks targeted Naftogaz facilities in the Kharkiv region, which had been hit for three consecutive days, and the Sumska compressor station in Sumy. The ministry stated that the Sumska station is a key hub in the gas transportation system and that the strikes, utilizing fiber-optic KVN FPV drones, aimed to reduce Ukraine's military and economic potential.

In Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy faced rare wartime protests. Demonstrators gathered in front of the president's office to demand the dismissal of Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and the reinstatement of former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

Other escalations occurred as Ukraine intensified missile and drone campaigns against Crimea, leading to severe fuel and electricity shortages. Meanwhile, a Russian warship conducted a live-fire exercise approximately 45 miles off the coast of the United Kingdom.
