Donald Trump Announces One-Time Payments for Medicare Enrollees
President Donald Trump announced one-time payments to over 20 million Medicare Part B enrollees to help cover premium costs using the Medicare Improvement Fund.
Donald Trump announced that the federal government will issue one-time payments to more than 20 million Medicare Part B enrollees to assist with premium costs. The funds will be drawn from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a $2 billion reserve established in 2008 that the administration claims has never been used for direct cost reductions for seniors.
Reports on the exact payment amount vary, with some sources citing $90 and others citing $100. Most eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive the funds via check or direct deposit in early October. Individuals whose premiums are covered by Medicaid or those who pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount are ineligible for the payment.
Trump linked the initiative to his broader objective of lowering healthcare costs and suggested a larger "Trump Dividend" could be issued if Republicans win the upcoming midterm elections. He stated that he pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security, which he claimed were on the verge of ruin under Joe Biden.
