BJP and Congress Clash Over Electoral Roll Allegations
The Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress are disputing claims of vote theft following the Election Commission of India's decision to provide searchable electoral rolls.
The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress are locked in a dispute over the Election Commission of India's (ECI) decision to provide searchable electoral rolls to political parties. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated the ECI issued an order on October 15 to provide these rolls for the Special Summary Revision in 17 states and union territories, claiming the move prevents "Vote Chori" (vote theft). Ramesh further demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a total revamp of the ECI's IT systems.
In response, BJP leaders have dismissed these claims as unsubstantiated. Telangana BJP chief N Ramchander Rao asserted that the ECI and the Supreme Court have already clarified that no forced deletions occurred. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the Congress of "shoot-and-scoot" politics, noting that Rahul Gandhi has failed to file formal complaints regarding previous allegations of bogus voters in Karnataka.
The conflict has expanded beyond electoral rolls. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Dharmendra Pradhan accused the Congress party of inciting youth to fuel unrest to seek a "regime change" similar to recent events in Bangladesh. BJP MP Rekha Sharma warned that anti-establishment forces are attempting to destroy public properties and loot stores, urging citizens to protect the country's development.
