Russia Intensifies Aerial Strikes as Ukraine Secures Missile Production
Russia has launched thousands of drones and missiles across Ukraine, prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to report massive infrastructure losses to the United Nations.
Russia has intensified its aerial campaign against Ukraine, launching over 2,200 attack drones in a single week and more than 6,000 missile and rocket attacks in Kyiv alone this year. Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed the United Nations that Russia has deployed over 2,100 missiles and 63,000 drones across the country since January. These strikes have destroyed approximately 70 percent of Ukraine's prewar power-generation capacity, leaving residents facing a critical winter.
On October 7, Russian cruise missiles struck a five-story apartment block in Pryluky, killing 18 people, including three children. Larysa Gerasko, the Ukrainian ambassador to Ireland, stated that Russia is targeting civilians and energy infrastructure to pressure the government to surrender. Gerasko warned that depleted air defenses and uncertain intelligence-sharing—following a deal between U.S. President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin regarding Russian diesel—could trigger a new wave of refugees.
To counter the onslaught, Ukraine has secured a new batch of Patriot missiles and received permission from the United States government to manufacture its own. Despite the destruction, local Christian pastors in Kyiv continue street outreach and worship services to provide spiritual support to civilians. While Ukraine has liberated 250 square kilometers of territory this year, the relentless aerial campaign continues to threaten civilian populations.
