AI Energy Demands Drive Surge in Nuclear Power Investment

Investment firms Sprott Asset Management and VanEck report a surge in nuclear energy investments driven by the electricity needs of AI data centers and federal policy shifts.

Investment firms Sprott Asset Management and VanEck are reporting a significant increase in uranium and nuclear energy investments, fueled by the massive electricity requirements of artificial intelligence data centers. John Ciampaglia of Sprott Asset Management describes a shift toward nuclear power due to its reliability and low carbon footprint, noting that most countries have returned to nuclear energy for security.

VanEck CEO Jan van Eck emphasizes that data centers require uninterrupted power, though he warns that the long construction times for nuclear plants may test investor patience. This investment trend is supported by executive orders signed by President Donald Trump in May to expedite reactor construction, rework the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and expand the domestic uranium industry.

Concrete applications of this shift are already emerging, such as a deal announced by Oklo to supply nuclear power to a U.S. Air Force base in Alaska. The firms view the transition as a long-term trend driven by the necessity for stable, high-capacity energy sources to support the growth of AI infrastructure.
