China and Ecuador Sign Green and Digital Economy Pacts
President Daniel Noboa visited Beijing to strengthen the China-Ecuador strategic partnership, resulting in new cooperation agreements on green industry, artificial intelligence, and trade.
Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Ecuadorian President Daniel Roy-Gilchrist Noboa Azin in Beijing from August 16 to 23, 2026, for Noboa's first official state visit since taking office. The visit marked the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, with bilateral trade having reached $17.33 billion in 2025.
During talks at the Great Hall of the People, the leaders focused on aligning development strategies and implementing the Belt and Road cooperation plan. They agreed to expand collaboration in traditional sectors, including energy, minerals, and infrastructure, while pursuing new partnerships in artificial intelligence, 5G, and the digital economy. President Noboa affirmed Ecuador's support for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, specifically respecting China's position on the Taiwan question, while seeking increased Chinese investment and expanded market access for Ecuadorian agricultural and food products.
The visit included meetings with Premier Li Qiang and National People's Congress Chairman Zhao Leji. The diplomatic engagement concluded with the signing of multiple cooperation documents covering green industry, the digital economy, trade, and public well-being. President Xi emphasized the right of Latin American and Caribbean nations to maintain independence and self-reliance in choosing their international cooperation partners.
