Poll Shows 64% of Americans Believe AI Developing Too Fast
A majority of Americans believe artificial intelligence is advancing too quickly and want the U.S. government to prioritize worker protections and human control.
A poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 64% of Americans believe artificial intelligence is developing too fast. A vast majority of respondents stated the U.S. government should prioritize protecting workers and ensuring AI remains under human control.
While concern over the speed of development is bipartisan, the public expresses little confidence in either the Democratic or Republican parties to manage the issue. Republicans in the survey emphasized global competition and economic growth, while Democrats prioritized the minimization of environmental harm.
Donald Trump has opposed slowing AI development, citing concerns that China could gain a technological advantage. This position contrasts with some leaders of AI development companies who have called for a slowdown to allow government regulation to catch up with the technology.
