Atiku Abubakar Demands Audit of AI-Tainted Voter Register
Atiku Abubakar called for a forensic audit of Nigeria's voter register after INEC admitted that registration officers inserted AI-generated images into the database.
Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) identify and prosecute officials responsible for inserting artificial intelligence-generated photographs into the national voter register. Abubakar described the situation as a "catastrophic failure of leadership and safeguards" following an admission from INEC that registration officers introduced these irregularities across the country.
Abubakar called for an independent forensic audit of the database, citing allegations that more than 20 million AI-generated images may be involved. He asserted that the credibility of the upcoming 2027 election depends on full disclosure and the identification of those who compromised the register.
The African Democratic Congress candidate also accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of enabling the crisis by allowing the electoral commission to evade public scrutiny. He argued that the commission cannot demand trust while concealing evidence and shielding the officers involved in the irregularities.
