President Bola Tinubu Receives Proposed 2027 UN Budget
President Bola Tinubu received the proposed 2027 United Nations budget from Permanent Representative Jimoh Ibrahim, marking a first for Nigeria in 66 years.
President Bola Tinubu received copies of the proposed 2027 United Nations budget on October 18, 2026, at the State House in Abuja. The documents were presented by Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN and Chair of the UN Committee on Budget and Administrative Matters.
The seven-volume proposal outlines approximately $14 billion in spending, including $3.4 billion for regular activities and $8.5 billion for peacekeeping operations. Ibrahim noted that this is the first time in 66 years a Nigerian president has received the proposed budget through this specific process.
Despite the presentation, the document remains a proposal. It must undergo further scrutiny and adjustment before receiving final approval from UN member states to authorize spending.
