Russia Launches Massive Aerial Barrage Across Ukrainian Cities

The Military of Russia conducted a massive aerial campaign against Ukraine between September 16 and 18, 2026, utilizing a barrage of missiles and drones. In Kyiv, strikes damaged residential buildings, warehouses, and a higher education facility, while a hit on Kyivvodokanal partially disrupted water supplies. In Odesa, the attacks evolved from a September 16 strike that killed one person to a double-drone strike on September 18. The final attack targeted an 11-story administrative building, with a second blast hitting while rescue workers were already treating victims. Meanwhile, the Zaporizhia region faced an intense 24-hour offensive involving 900 attacks across 50 settlements, including six direct missile strikes on Zaporizhia city and a market fire.

Ukraine responded with retaliatory strikes inside Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the targeting of an oil refinery in Yaroslavl and a military airfield in Rostov, where several aircraft and helicopters were damaged. Additionally, Russian air defenses intercepted 29 Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow. The Ukrainian Air Force reported neutralizing 131 Russian aerial targets during the broader barrage.
