The government of Sanae Takaichi announced an emergency cyberdefense package on Friday to address a surge of high-profile cyberattacks across Japan. The administration attributes the current cybersecurity crisis to the rise of artificial intelligence and vulnerabilities stemming from poor cyber hygiene.
As part of the initiative, the government will launch a team of specialists later this month focused on penetration testing and security strengthening. To assist the private sector, the administration will establish a joint team of public and private experts to provide direct support to companies currently under attack.
Additionally, the government plans to cooperate with artificial intelligence companies to develop tools to counter evolving threats. These measures aim to harden national infrastructure and corporate defenses against increasingly sophisticated digital incursions.
