APC Inaugurates 2027 Campaign Council With Opposition Members
The All Progressives Congress inaugurated President Bola Tinubu's 2027 campaign council in Abuja, appointing several opposition governors and ministers as state coordinators.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) formally inaugurated President Bola Tinubu's 2027 Presidential Campaign Council on October 14, 2026, at the State Banquet Hall in Abuja. The council is chaired by President Tinubu, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice-chairmen. Abdulaziz Yari retains his role as Director-General.
A defining feature of the revised council is the inclusion of high-profile opposition figures to broaden the president's support base. Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, will coordinate campaigns in Rivers State and the FCT. Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party will oversee Osun State, and Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will lead efforts in Anambra State.
In a strategic shift, APGA formally endorsed President Tinubu as its consensus candidate and announced it will not field its own presidential candidate for 2027, though it will still contest legislative seats in Anambra State. Nyesom Wike defended the cross-party appointments, describing the APC as an "umbrella" platform for those wishing to support the president's re-election.
The appointments drew mixed reactions. While APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda praised the party's structure of over 261,000 executives, some APC members in Ebonyi State criticized the inclusion of "strangers" in the council. In Osun State, the Allied People’s Movement dismissed Governor Adeleke's appointment as inconsequential to the eventual election outcome.
