APC Rejects Calls for President Bola Tinubu to Resign

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected demands for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign or avoid seeking re-election in 2027, citing the president's fitness and productivity. APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda dismissed calls for resignation as unfounded, arguing that Tinubu actively manages government operations and pointing to infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as evidence of success.

These defenses follow public calls for the president to step aside from opposition figures. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, argued that Tinubu lacks the capacity to address economic hardship, poverty, and insecurity, suggesting the president is tired and should retire in peace.

Simultaneously, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) declared that supporting a second term for Tinubu would exacerbate suffering and poverty in Nigeria. APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf criticized the administration for failing to curb terrorism and kidnapping while overseeing a rise in external borrowing to $51.86 billion. The APM promoted Governor Seyi Makinde as its presidential candidate, claiming the ruling party is increasingly concerned by the opposition's growing popularity.
