Trump Considers Seizing Iranian Oil and Uranium Resources

President Donald Trump is weighing military operations to seize Iranian oil exports and enriched uranium while maintaining indirect diplomatic negotiations via third-party mediators.

President Donald Trump has proposed a series of high-risk military operations to seize critical Iranian resources. In an interview with the Financial Times, Trump expressed a preference for capturing Iran's oil resources, specifically Kharg Island, the nation's primary oil export hub. He compared this potential strategy to U.S. efforts to control the oil sector in Venezuela and claimed the U.S. could take the island easily due to a lack of Iranian defenses.

Simultaneously, the administration is considering a ground mission to extract approximately 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Potential targets for these operations include nuclear sites in Isfahan and Natanz, as well as the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon is currently developing contingency plans for ground operations that could last several weeks.

To support these options, the United States has deployed over 50,000 personnel to the Middle East, including Navy SEALs and Army Rangers. Despite the military buildup, the Trump administration continues to pursue diplomatic channels. Indirect talks are currently progressing via emissaries from Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt, while direct discussions are also underway to pressure Iran into voluntarily surrendering the uranium.
