Pakistan Committee Recommends Petrol Price Deregulation by June 2027

The Petroleum Pricing Committee has recommended June 2027 as the target date for the deregulation of petrol prices in Pakistan. Chaired by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, the committee proposes shifting from government-determined pricing to a competitive, market-based system. This transition is intended to improve transparency, predictability, and market efficiency while shielding consumers from sudden price fluctuations.

Beyond petrol deregulation, the committee established emergency intervention guidelines to manage extraordinary diesel price increases and approved a revised methodology for the Inland Freight Equalization Margin (IFEM). As part of these reforms, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority was directed to review the performance of oil marketing companies and complete the IFEM audit for fiscal year 2026 by the end of the calendar year.

The committee's final report will be presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for a final government decision.
