JD Vance and Usha Vance Welcome Fourth Child
Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance announced the birth of their son, Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance announced the birth of their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday, July 19, 2026. The birth took place at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C. This event marks the first time in 156 years that a sitting vice president has welcomed a child while in office, with the last such instance occurring in 1870 during the administration of Ulysses S. Grant.
The couple expressed gratitude to the medical staff at the White House Medical Unit and Walter Reed for their care. Alec joins three older siblings: Ewan, aged 9; Vivek, aged 6; and Mirabel, aged 4. President Donald Trump congratulated the family on Monday, sharing a photograph of the newborn and describing him as a "perfect baby boy."
JD Vance attributed the decision to expand the family to the influence of the September 2025 death of friend and political commentator Charlie Kirk. The birth aligns with the vice president's public advocacy for policies intended to increase U.S. birth rates. To provide their children with a sense of normalcy, the family plans to lease a property in Middleburg, Virginia, while maintaining their official residence at the Naval Observatory.
