Amit Shah Orders AI Integration for Counter-Terrorism at Security Conference

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and led the 9th National Security Strategies (NSS) Conference in New Delhi on August 24 and 25, 2026. Attended by over 850 security and police officers in a hybrid format, the event focused on contemporary threats including proxy warfare attributed to Pakistan, cybercrime, and narcotics trafficking.

Shah directed security agencies to integrate artificial intelligence into counter-terrorism operations, specifically calling for AI-based analysis of information on Multi-Agency Centre platforms to create new standard operating procedures. He mandated a zero-tolerance approach toward illegal immigration, stating that "this country is not a dharamshala" and asserting that infiltrators threaten national security, the economy, and demographics. He set a goal to make India free of illegal immigration in a "very short period of time."

To combat drugs, Shah called for the implementation of the Narcotics Control Vision Document 2026-2029 using a "detect, disrupt and destroy" strategy. He also emphasized transitioning the PRAHAAR anti-terror doctrine from document to practice and utilizing trials in absentia to prosecute fugitives. The annual conference was established following a 2016 directive from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to leverage grassroots expertise for national security challenges.
