INDIA Bloc Launches Save Democracy Campaign Against Electoral Fraud

The INDIA bloc announced a four-point Save Democracy campaign beginning October 2 to protest alleged electoral fraud and the erosion of democratic institutions. The program consists of district-level marches and demonstrations outside District Magistrate offices from October 2 to 8, followed by a march of all Opposition MPs to the Election Commission on October 6. The bloc also plans a meeting with the President of India during the second week of October and five large rallies.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a return to ballot paper voting and greater transparency in electoral roll revisions, specifically opposing the Special Intensive Revision. Rahul Gandhi stated the bloc aims to ensure those who destroyed Indian democracy are punished. Adding to the pressure, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee called for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of involvement in poll rigging and vote chori.

The Election Commission of India has rejected claims of internal splits and maintains that its decisions follow statutory procedures.
