Israeli Settler Violence Targets West Bank Olive Harvest

Palestinian farmers report escalating settler violence and military restrictions on olive harvests in the West Bank ahead of Israel's October 27 elections.

Palestinian olive farmers in the West Bank are facing escalating violence, theft, and military restrictions as the official harvest began on October 15. The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture recorded 300 settler-related incidents prior to the start date, while the rights group Yesh Din reported 100 thefts of olives and equipment. In Beit Anan, Israeli forces banned residents from harvesting olives in the al-Khunaidiq area on October 15.

Violence has resulted in casualties and significant agricultural loss. On October 7, a raid by 15 to 20 settlers near the village of Burqa led to the death of Palestinian farmer Ali Bazzari. The Israeli Defense Forces stated a commander neutralized a "terrorist" carrying a "suspicious object" following reports of rock-hurling. Other attacks include a shooting that injured a farmer in the Salfit Governorate and the uprooting of over 50 trees in Qusra on October 9. Data from August 2026 indicates that attacks by Israeli forces and colonists affected 21,508 trees, including 19,375 olive trees.

Benjamin Netanyahu is accused by Palestinian officials and farmers of avoiding action against settlers to secure right-wing votes for the October 27 elections. Yesh Din characterizes the violence as a deliberate policy intended to economically harm Palestinians and drive them off their land.
