Russia and Ukraine Exchange Large-Scale Infrastructure Strikes

Ukraine and Russia launched simultaneous drone and missile attacks targeting logistics centers, oil refineries, and civilian infrastructure on August 21-22.

Ukraine and Russia exchanged large-scale infrastructure strikes overnight on August 21-22, 2026, targeting energy, logistics, and civilian sites. Ukraine deployed drones to the Samara region of Russia, hitting facilities at the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery operated by PJSC Rosneft Oil Company and a logistics center in Chapayevsk belonging to Ozon, Russia's second-largest online retailer. The Ozon strike caused injuries and forced the evacuation of roughly 500 employees, continuing a Ukrainian campaign against Russian e-commerce infrastructure.

Simultaneously, Russian forces targeted Ukrainian transport and energy hubs. Strikes hit a locomotive depot in the Darnytsia district of Kyiv, a logistics center in Brovary, and fuel tanks and warehouses at the ports of Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi. The attack on the Darnytsia facility killed one employee of the state rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian attacks spanned multiple regions, including a daytime drone strike on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih. That specific attack killed at least 16 people and injured 130 others.
