Melania Trump Hosts Russia and Ukraine at White House

First Lady Melania Trump will host Russian and Ukrainian representatives on November 5 following her role in brokering a humanitarian ceasefire in Oleshky.

First Lady Melania Trump will host representatives from Russia and Ukraine at the White House on November 5 to discuss a localized ceasefire in the Kherson region. The meeting follows a six-day humanitarian pause in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky from October 27 to November 2, which the First Lady helped broker. The truce allowed for the delivery of critical aid and the evacuation of nearly 800 civilians.

While the operation provided temporary relief, the General Staff of Ukraine alleged that Russian forces used the pause to rotate troops and improve battlefield logistics. Despite these tensions, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Melania Trump the Order of Princess Olga, 1st class, for her humanitarian contributions and support for displaced Ukrainian children.

These diplomatic efforts serve as a precursor to broader trilateral peace talks between Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington scheduled for November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi. Those discussions, led for Russia by Vladimir Medinsky, will address postwar security arrangements and conflict de-escalation. Other related diplomatic activity includes a European Commission meeting in Brussels on November 4 and G7 foreign ministers' discussions in Marseille on November 9-10 involving U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
