Iran Proposes Seven-Point Peace Plan to United States
Iran has submitted a seven-point proposal via Qatari mediators to end its conflict with the United States and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The Government of Iran has conveyed a seven-point proposal to the United States through Qatari mediation to end an eight-month conflict. The Iranian conditions for peace include a total halt to hostilities on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and an end to the naval blockade. Tehran has specifically offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States accepts the plan.
The Federal government of the United States continues to maintain military pressure and demands concrete progress on Iran's nuclear program before agreeing to sanctions relief or the release of funds. While the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claims U.S. warships have retreated from the Persian Gulf, the U.S. maintains its blockade. This standoff has pushed Brent crude prices above USD 108 a barrel, leading the U.S. to offer energy companies up to 40 million barrels from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei criticized President Donald Trump during a meeting in Tehran with Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev. Rezaei asserted that the U.S. has no future in the Caucasus region and claimed the American leadership is unable to decide whether to negotiate or wage war. Regional tensions remain high as Houthi fighters advance in Yemen and Saudi Arabia conducts retaliatory airstrikes.
