Donald Trump Proposes Tariff Dividends and 50-Year Mortgages

Donald Trump proposed several unconventional policy measures through social media and interviews amid a record-setting government shutdown and recent Democratic electoral gains. His proposals include distributing $2,000 tariff dividends to non-high-income Americans and replacing ObamaCare by sending healthcare funds directly to citizens instead of insurance companies.

To address housing costs, Trump suggested implementing 50-year mortgages to lower monthly payments, an idea originated by Federal Housing Director Bill Pulte. Additionally, Trump recommended $10,000 bonuses for air traffic controllers who remained on duty during the shutdown.

These measures currently lack formal legislative proposals and would require approval from Congress, while the mortgage extensions would require cooperation from private lenders. In response to the healthcare proposal, Senator Bernie Sanders advocated for Medicare for All, arguing that the United States is the only major country that does not guarantee health care as a human right.
