Amit Shah Launches Mission Five Million Trees in Ahmedabad

Amit Shah launched the Mission Five Million Trees campaign in Ahmedabad, setting a Guinness World Record by planting 3.61 lakh saplings in one hour.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the Mission Five Million Trees campaign in Ahmedabad on July 12, 2026. Organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the initiative aims to plant 50 lakh trees across the city to increase green cover. As part of the drive, Shah inaugurated 101 oxygen parks and public infrastructure projects totaling approximately ₹405 crore, managed jointly by the AMC, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority, and the Roads and Buildings Department.

The campaign coincided with the Hariyali Lok Sabha initiative, where Shah announced a target to increase the green cover of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency to 20 percent by the 2029 elections, up from the current 11.23 percent. During the events, Shah urged residents to install rooftop solar panels to reduce carbon emissions, noting that Gandhinagar leads all parliamentary constituencies in solar rooftop installations. The effort aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.

In a highlight of the day, the AMC established a Guinness World Record in Bhadaj, Ahmedabad, by planting 3.61 lakh indigenous saplings in a single hour. Utilizing the Miyawaki method, more than 25,000 volunteers planted approximately 35 indigenous species across 76,000 square metres. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in the record-breaking drive and other plantation activities near Applewood.
