Trump Announces Navy Submarine Repair Center for Cleveland
President Donald Trump announced the Department of War will build a 46,000 square-foot submarine repair center in Cleveland, Ohio, to increase shipbuilding capacity.
Donald Trump announced that the Department of War will establish a U.S. Navy submarine repair center in Cleveland, Ohio. The 46,000 square-foot facility is designed to manufacture, repair, and maintain parts for all current and future submarine classes, including the Los Angeles, Virginia, Seawolf, Ohio, and Columbia classes.
The announcement took place during a midterm rally in Youngstown and follows a presidential memorandum issued on August 13 intended to reduce order backlogs and expand national shipbuilding capacity. White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the location during a Tuesday briefing, though the city of Cleveland reported it has not yet received specific details regarding the plan.
U.S. Senator Jon Husted, who advocated for the site selection, stated the facility will strengthen national security and create local jobs. Bartlett Maritime, a Cleveland-based company that long campaigned for the facility, expressed encouragement following the announcement.
