Peter Mbah Endorses Bola Tinubu's Fuel Subsidy Removal
Governor Peter Mbah endorsed President Bola Tinubu's removal of fuel subsidies, arguing that reintroducing the measure would trigger investor panic and currency devaluation.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu's decision to remove fuel subsidies during a town hall meeting organized by Afia TV. Mbah described a return to the subsidy as "inconceivable" and "undebatable," stating that the previous system primarily benefited the wealthy.
Mbah argued that reintroducing the subsidy would cause the naira to be automatically devalued, trigger investor panic, and increase poverty rates. He asserted that the current policy allows the government to better target the poor through seed capital programs and cash transfers.
During the event, Mbah also defended his governance record in Enugu State. He cited the development of smart schools, Enugu Air, and Hotel Presidential as key infrastructure achievements, while outlining future objectives to provide 24-hour power supply and expanded transportation services.
