Iran Condemns Trump's New Crushing Economic Operation
Iranian officials vow to protect their economy after President Donald Trump launched a large-scale economic operation against Tehran following failed deal negotiations.
President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday the launch of a large-scale economic operation against Iran, describing it as the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country. The move follows the failure of Tehran and Washington to reach a deal. Trump warned that any nation providing financial or logistical support to Iran would face tremendous economic consequences.
Iranian officials responded by dismissing the measures as doomed to fail. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi characterized the operation as a distraction from internal U.S. crises and cited the failure of previous efforts, including the Maximum Pressure campaign and sanctions promised by Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Araghchi and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the sanctions as economic terrorism and crimes against humanity.
First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref added on Saturday that the Iranian government would protect economic stability and citizens' livelihoods. Aref asserted that economic pressure cannot change the will of the Iranian people and would instead produce the opposite result.
