Flydubai Copilot Attacks Captain on Flight to Tel Aviv
A flydubai copilot attacked the captain during a flight to Tel Aviv, forcing an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after passengers helped restrain the suspect.
A copilot attacked the captain of a flydubai Boeing 737 traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, causing the aircraft to lose altitude suddenly. The flight, which carried 174 passengers and eight crew members, landed safely in Saudi Arabia after passengers intervened to restrain the suspect and other crew members regained control of the aircraft.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, acknowledged a "loophole" in agreements with foreign airlines that allowed pilots from nations without formal diplomatic ties to Israel to operate flights into the country. He stated that the government is now taking steps to address the security gap.
The suspect has been identified as an Omani citizen. Authorities from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Israel are currently investigating the motive and the weapon used in the stabbing, with additional assistance from the United States and Oman. The incident has renewed international debates regarding aviation security and the screening processes for crew members entering the cockpit.
