Indian Leaders Mark Raksha Bandhan with Policy Initiatives

President Droupadi Murmu and other senior Indian government leaders issued greetings to citizens on August 27 and 28, 2026, to mark the festival of Raksha Bandhan. President Murmu described the occasion as a sacred bond of protection and a reminder that relationships rely on trust, sensitivity, and mutual cooperation. She urged citizens to strengthen community bonds to advance toward a "Viksit Bharat."

On the eve of the festival, President Murmu also met with 2025 batch Indian Foreign Service officer trainees and Bhutanese diplomats at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service. She instructed diplomats to align their work with the principle of "Rashtrahit Sarvopari" and to engage with universities, businesses, and the diaspora to support India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined the celebrations with messages emphasizing cultural heritage and the dignity of women. Several state leaders linked the holiday to specific government actions. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the installation of solar panels for nearly 10 lakh Jeevika Didis under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar scheme. Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel allocated 28 crore rupees in development grants for road infrastructure in the constituencies of 14 women legislators.
