Marcos Jr. Campaigns for UN Security Council Seat in New York

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. conducted a working visit to New York from March 8 to 11, 2026, to engage with the United Nations and international business leaders. The primary focus of the trip was campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027-2028 term. During a Special Plenary Meeting of the UN General Assembly and a meeting with Secretary-General António Guterres, Marcos emphasized the need for developing nations to have a voice in global peace and security.

Amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, Marcos advocated for restraint and adherence to international law in the Middle East. This followed a March 6 solidarity call with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to ensure the safety of the 2 to 2.5 million Filipinos living in the region. Marcos also addressed the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, highlighting the protection of women and girls from violence.

Beyond diplomatic efforts, Marcos met with senior leaders from JPMorgan to discuss the economic impacts of artificial intelligence and engaged with a US medical glove company regarding a new manufacturing facility in the Philippines expected to create 2,000 jobs. While the Philippines considered an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join a Gaza reconstruction board, no bilateral meetings with Trump occurred during the visit.
