BJP Condemns Rahul Gandhi Over Modi Mimicry Act

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned Rahul Gandhi after he participated in a mimicry act targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' student outreach event in Indore on September 19, 2026. Gandhi shared the stage with comedian Pulkit Mani, who impersonated the Prime Minister's mannerisms and foreign policy style. BJP leaders, including Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju, Pralhad Joshi, and Piyush Goyal, accused Gandhi of moral bankruptcy and cheap political theatre, specifically alleging that the performance mocked the Prime Minister's late mother.

Opposition leaders from the Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and Trinamool Congress defended the act as harmless satire and a democratic right. Congress leader Raashid Alvi and TMC MP Saugata Roy argued the performance was mere mimicry, while others claimed the BJP was twisting the event to divert attention from issues like education costs and employment. In response to the backlash, Gandhi questioned why the government spends on celebrations for the Prime Minister while students lack affordable hostels.

The controversy led to further escalations, with BJP leaders demanding a formal apology and suggesting Gandhi pursue a career in stand-up comedy. Meanwhile, comedian Pulkit Mani cancelled a scheduled show in Noida citing unforeseen circumstances. Congress supporters countered the BJP's narrative by circulating a 2019 clip of Prime Minister Modi appearing to mock Gandhi's dyslexia.
