India and Belgium Launch Inaugural Strategic Dialogue in Brussels

India and Belgium established a structured political framework in Brussels to deepen cooperation in defence, semiconductors, and clean energy while advancing India-EU trade negotiations.

India and Belgium held their inaugural Strategic Dialogue in Brussels on July 15, 2026, establishing a structured framework for political and security engagement. Co-chaired by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prevot, the talks focused on deepening cooperation in defence, semiconductors, supply chain de-risking, clean energy, and mobility.

The dialogue was integrated into the broader India-European Union Strategic Partnership. Parallel to the diplomatic talks, the India-EU Business Forum convened at the Federation of Belgian Enterprises to explore economic opportunities as negotiations for an India-EU Free Trade Agreement continue.

During the visit, Jaishankar met with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas. These discussions addressed the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, green shipping, and the need to diversify production sources to mitigate structural challenges in the global economy. The leaders also exchanged perspectives on conflicts in Ukraine, Africa, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific. Both nations agreed to further high-level visits later in the year to implement the dialogue's outcomes.
