Houthi Missile Attack on Riyadh Airport Kills 12 People

The Houthi group claimed responsibility for a missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed 12 people and injured over 300.

A missile attack targeted the passenger terminal of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10, 2026, killing 12 people and injuring 309. The victims included Saudi citizens and nationals from the United States, Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan. The Houthi group, an Iran-backed movement in Yemen, claimed responsibility for the strike and two previous attacks on October 6 and 7.

Saudi authorities temporarily suspended airport operations for safety assessments, prompting a mass call-up of doctors to treat the wounded. International airlines, including Akasa Air, Kuwait Airways, Lufthansa, and Etihad Airways, cancelled or suspended flights to the capital. Embassies from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Germany, and Spain issued travel warnings urging citizens to avoid the facility.

In response, the Saudi-led coalition vowed a firm military response, and the Saudi government launched strikes on Houthi missile launcher sites. U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the attack as "not acceptable" and stated Washington is considering joining Saudi Arabia in striking the Houthis. Trump also warned Iran that the U.S. could end Iranian aggression "really quick" if it attempts to influence the upcoming November 3 midterm elections through provocations.

Despite the violence, organizers of the World Petroleum Congress and the Future Investment Initiative confirmed that both conferences will proceed in Riyadh this month. Maha bint Mishari Al Saud, CEO of the Future Investment Initiative, stated that comprehensive security measures would be in place for participants.
