Neocloud Sector Plummets Amid Debt Fears and Failure Predictions

The neocloud sector is facing a market rout as investors fear a private credit bubble and Gartner predicts 80% of firms will fail by 2030.

The neocloud sector, comprising AI-focused cloud providers that lease GPUs for model training, is experiencing a significant market rout. The Roundhill Neocloud ETF has dropped approximately 31% since its summer inception, driven by concerns over a private credit bubble and the long-term return on investment for AI infrastructure.

Market instability intensified in mid-October after bonds for CoreWeave entered distressed territory. This volatility was compounded by a failed IPO for the South Korean firm Elice and earnings reports from Meta and Tesla that signaled increased spending discipline. Research firm Gartner further dampened sentiment by predicting that 80% of neocloud firms will fail by 2030 due to a projected revenue shortfall.

On October 25, Elon Musk exacerbated the sell-off by warning that debt markets have nearly shut off for AI companies lacking substantial non-data center revenue. He predicted a period of consolidation and failure for the more than 200 neocloud providers. Despite these trends, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has attempted to reassure markets that demand for neocloud services remains extremely high.
