Atiku Abubakar Challenges President Tinubu to 2027 Presidential Debate

Atiku Abubakar challenged President Bola Tinubu to a national presidential debate, conditioning his participation on the attendance of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Candidate for the African Democratic Congress Atiku Abubakar challenged President Bola Tinubu to a national presidential debate ahead of the 2027 general elections. Through spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, Abubakar stated that he will only participate in future debates if President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress also attend.

Abubakar criticized the current trend of organizing debates exclusively for opposition candidates, describing the practice as an untenable strategy. He claimed the APC-led administration uses these forums to incite division among opposition parties while avoiding public scrutiny.

While refusing to join forums that exclude the ruling party, Abubakar expressed willingness to engage the Nigerian public through interviews, press conferences, and town hall meetings to discuss his policies and programs.
