Narendra Modi Meets NCPI MPs Amid West Bengal Political Shifts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a breakfast meeting in Delhi on August 7, 2026, with members of Parliament from the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). The delegation included 20 former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha members who merged with the NCPI in June. During the meeting, Modi described the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as a growing family and emphasized the need for collective effort to develop West Bengal and the northeast region.

Following the meeting, NCPI leader Abu Taher clarified that the party is not a member of the ruling NDA alliance, stating his participation was intended solely to raise public issues directly with the Prime Minister. NCPI MP Sudip Bandhopadhyay highlighted the Prime Minister's vision for strengthening Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Guwahati to restore the region's former glory.

Simultaneously in Kolkata, a faction of rebel TMC MLAs led by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee met with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the Nabanna secretariat. The rebel group raised concerns over the removal of microphones from mosques and the deletion of 27 lakh names during a Special Intensive Revision exercise. While the rebels sought further appeal options for the tribunal, TMC loyalists dismissed the meeting and labeled the defectors to the NCPI as traitors.
