Indian Youth Congress Suspends 200 Officials Over Rally Absence
The Indian Youth Congress suspended over 200 office-bearers across seven states for failing to attend a mandatory INDIA bloc protest rally in Delhi.
The Indian Youth Congress suspended more than 200 office-bearers across seven states for failing to attend a mandatory INDIA bloc rally in Delhi on November 1. The protest, held at Ramlila Maidan, targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the national electoral process and perceived attacks on the Constitution.
To track participation, the organization utilized a digital attendance system via the With IYC app and barcode scanners at the Minto Road assembly point. While the youth wing claimed 15,000 people gathered before Rahul Gandhi led the march, the app recorded only 2,831 registrations. The total number of suspensions could reach 500 as internal reviews continue.
In Himachal Pradesh, the state wing suspended 13 functionaries. State Youth Congress General Secretary Aryan Chauhan stated that these individuals had been informed that attending the rally was mandatory, but failed to appear without providing specific or serious justifications. Chauhan noted that the disciplinary action followed months of inactivity and absence from party programs. While the national leadership made the decision in consultation with state leaders, Chauhan indicated that no final or permanent decision has been reached and further discussions may occur.
