President Donald Trump threatened to withhold federal funding from New York City if Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani wins the mayoral election on November 4, 2025. Trump characterized Mamdani as a communist and a proven jew hater, claiming the city would have zero chance of success or survival under his leadership. On Truth Social, Trump called any Jewish voters supporting Mamdani stupid and endorsed independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, stating he would prefer a bad Democrat over a communist.

On Election Day, the situation escalated when Mamdani alleged that bomb threats targeting polling locations across seven New Jersey counties were part of a Trump administration strategy to intimidate voters. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned these claims as completely irresponsible and based on zero evidence. While some New Jersey polling sites were temporarily closed or relocated, authorities and the Department of Justice determined the threats were not credible.
