Donald Trump Claims California Election Fraud Ahead of Primaries

President Donald Trump alleged California's mail-in voting system is fraudulent, prompting state and county officials to release data and maps proving the existence of voting booths.

Donald Trump claimed in a Fox News interview and to reporters that California's elections are a fraud, specifically targeting the state's mail-in voting process. He asserted that California lacks physical voting booths, that no other country uses mail-in voting, and that 38 million ballots are sent out without tracking.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder refuted these claims. Bonta noted that in-person booths remain available, while the Registrar-Recorder issued a misinformation alert featuring an interactive map of 646 active vote centers in Los Angeles County. Official data contradicted Trump's figures, showing 23.2 million registered voters as of May 18, 2026, with 19% of 2024 general election ballots cast in person.

Following the June 2 primary, L.A. County Registrar-Recorder Dean Logan estimated a 34% voter turnout, noting activity was higher than the 2022 primary. Ballots were processed at a new 15,000-square-foot facility in the City of Industry. L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis stated the center cost millions to ensure transparency, utilizing security measures such as a live-streamed tally room and canine units to secure the process.
