Barack Obama Campaigns in Ohio and Michigan Against Trump

Barack Obama campaigned for Democratic candidates in Ohio and Michigan, accusing President Donald Trump of corruption and destabilizing global oil markets through conflict with Iran.

Former President Barack Obama campaigned for Democratic candidates in Cleveland, Ohio, and Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. At a rally in Detroit attended by approximately 4,300 supporters, Obama endorsed Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who is competing against Republican Mike Rogers. In Ohio, Obama appeared with Senate candidate Sherrod Brown and gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton.

Obama characterized the upcoming elections as a "circuit breaker" necessary to bring accountability to the government. He criticized President Donald Trump's administration for "straight-up grifting," citing taxpayer-funded contracts for the president's children's companies and a pardon for a Venezuelan billionaire. He further ridiculed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the aesthetic of White House renovations.

On foreign and economic policy, Obama argued that trade tariffs and the war with Iran have increased the federal deficit and raised consumer costs for fuel and households. He specifically claimed that the conflict has granted Iran "veto power over the Strait of Hormuz," driving up global oil and diesel prices.

In Ohio, Obama condemned a campaign advertisement aired by Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy that featured Amy Acton's estranged mother, stating that "no office is worth stooping that low." Republicans, including Vice President JD Vance, countered by alleging links between El-Sayed and the Muslim Brotherhood, a claim El-Sayed denies.
