Indian Leaders Honor Central Reserve Police Force Raising Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other government officials praised the Central Reserve Police Force for its role in national security and counter-insurgency during its anniversary.
Indian government leaders celebrated the anniversary of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on July 27, 2026. While some reports identified the event as the 87th anniversary, others, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked it as the 88th Raising Day of the paramilitary organization.
Prime Minister Modi praised the force for its unwavering courage and specifically noted its efforts in eliminating the menace of Maoism to ensure internal security. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan joined the tributes, emphasizing the force's professionalism and its history of safeguarding India's unity and integrity. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also congratulated the personnel for their discipline and dedication.
Beyond counter-insurgency and security operations, officials highlighted the force's humanitarian contributions. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma specifically thanked CRPF personnel for assisting victims of ongoing floods in Assam. CRPF Director General G.P. Singh reaffirmed the organization's commitment to national protection.
Founded in 1939 as the Crown Representative's Police and restructured under the CRPF Act of 1949, the CRPF is India's largest Central Armed Police Force. Operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, it employs specialized units such as the Rapid Action Force and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action to manage riot control and counter-insurgency.
