Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan Sign Mecca Defence Pact

The Government of Saudi Arabia, the Government of Türkiye, and the Government of Pakistan signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement on August 7, 2026. The tripartite treaty establishes a collective security framework where an armed attack against one member is treated as an attack against all. The alliance leverages specific national strengths: Saudi Arabia provides financial backing, Türkiye contributes drones and advanced military technology, and Pakistan supplies frontline manpower.

U.S. President Donald Trump approved the pact, noting that it aligns with American policy to support Middle East alliances that do not threaten Israel. The agreement has since drawn interest from the Government of Bangladesh, which is currently weighing an invitation to join. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman stated that Bangladesh would consider the invitation positively, while other state ministers confirmed the matter is under government review.

Internal debate in Bangladesh centers on whether the treaty offers strategic depth and a deterrent against India or risks dragging the nation into distant regional conflicts. India has expressed wariness regarding the potential expansion, viewing Bangladeshi membership as a tacit Pakistani presence on its eastern border.
