Indian Political Leaders Honor Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

Indian National Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary while criticizing the current government's treatment of dissent.

Indian National Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi on October 2 to mark his 157th birth anniversary. The leaders attended the Sarva-Dharma Prarthana at the samadhi and visited Vijay Ghat to honor former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Other political figures, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, also offered homage during the commemorations. However, the event served as a platform for political criticism from the opposition.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal used the occasion to attack the Modi government, alleging that independent institutions are bending to the convenience of power. Venugopal claimed that the state is using brute force against dissent and that the values of truth and non-violence are under sustained strain.
