North Korea Denies Stealing $6 Billion From Binance
North Korea rejected FBI allegations that a state-affiliated hacking group stole $6 billion from Binance, while President Donald Trump expressed doubt about the findings.
The Government of North Korea has condemned allegations from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that a state-affiliated hacking group, TraderTraitor, stole $6 billion from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. In a statement released Tuesday via the KCNA state news agency, Kim Yo Jong described the claims as a "grave political provocation" and "absurd rhetoric," asserting that the United States is attempting to damage the international image of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The FBI previously linked TraderTraitor to a $1.5 billion theft from the Bybit platform in February 2025. The Binance heist, the largest on record, caused major cryptocurrency prices to drop sharply on Friday. While the South Korean Foreign Ministry warned that North Korean cyber activities threaten the global digital economy, President Donald Trump cast doubt on the FBI's findings. He stated he was not concerned and noted that it is not yet certain if North Korea was responsible for the theft.
